A Mandeville man was arrested after breaking into his estranged wife's home and pointing a hunting rifle at her, police said. The woman was screaming and begging her husband not to shoot her when Mandeville police entered the home and took David Lockhart, 46, into custody, police spokesman Lt. Gerald Sticker said Monday.

Officers responded to a frantic 911 call at 3:30 a.m. Saturday from a home on Penn Street, Sticker said. The woman told the dispatcher that her estranged husband had a gun and that he was trying to force his way into the home so he could kill her, according to police.
