The city dropped battery charges against cab driver Emmanuel Esterlin following the release of a video that shows Esterlin being attacked by Taxicab Bureau investigator Ronnie Blake with pepper spray.
The video, taken from a security camera at the Hyatt French Quarter Hotel, shows Blake using pepper spray on Esterlin as the Alliance cab driver is walking away with his hands at his sides. Blake first approached Esterlin for illegally parking on Dauphine Street.
Municipal Court Judge Paul Sens ordered the city on Dec. 4 to provide the footage to Esterlin's attorney, Tom Shlosman, by Monday.
