The first of thirteen NOFD units carrying forty-three firefighters arrived three minutes later and reported seeing flames ripping through the roof of a vacant, two-story wood-framed commercial building.
Firefighters moved to protect occupied dwellings on two sides of the structure, which had no utility service and had been vacant for years, the NOFD said.
A second alarm was called in at 9:29 p.m. to help contain the fire. The department reported the under control at 10:52 p.m.
Neighbors said squatters frequented the structure.
"They could have been making a fire in a metal barrel because it's suppose to be freezing tonight,"
