NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Loyola University officials have laid off 18 staff members and announced that 12 non-tenured faculty will not have their contracts renewed in April.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1dy4tgA ) that the university is trying to erase a $5.1 million deficit in its budget.
The layoffs come as the university has been trimming its budget in light of a significant drop in enrollment this year, the second year in a row Loyola has seen its enrollment numbers decline.
