NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The former Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy who exposed bad conditions inside Orleans Parish Prison wants the state to investigate the sheriff's office.
According to our partners at The Lens, Byran Collins wants the legislative auditor, the Treasury Department and the inspector general to look into the possibility the sheriff's office paid administrative and support staff with money meant for law enforcement personnel.
Collins says an August payroll report shows Sheriff Marlin Gusman signed off on as much as $300,000 a year in payments to employees who don't qualify for the Deputy Sheriff's Supplemental Pay Program.
