When 6-year-old Ahlittia North was found dead in a garbage can outside a derelict apartment in Harvey last week, a Jefferson Parish councilman decided to turn to his council colleagues to expedite the demolition of several dilapidated properties in the Woodmere subdivision.Councilman Mark Spears said he has been trying for months to tear down structures that pose a risk to safety and quality of life.
"People that live in Woodmere continually complain about those apartments and how they look,'' said Spears, whose mother lives in the neighborhood.
