A 20-year-old Belle Chasse woman was arrested Tuesday after confessing to fatally poisoning her toddler, who had Down syndrome, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
During an interview with detectives, Erika Wigstrom, 110 XI St., allegedly confessed to injecting hand sanitizer into the feeding tube of her 17-month-old son, Lucas Ruiz, in January.
Wigstrom also confessed to injecting perfume into his feeding tube in October 2012, when Lucas was 2 months old and was awaiting open heart surgery at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson Parish.
