NEW ORLEANS – The Orleans Parish Communication District is trying to bulk up its staff of 911 call takers to help alleviate a problem of slow response times on answering calls.
The city council’s justice committee discussed the issue Wednesday.
The shortage of call takers has been an issue for close to six years.
The district confirmed that it has experienced the staffing shortage and that it has recently received approval to increase its staff of 36 to 55 in the next three to six weeks.
