New Orleans, La. - Sheriff Marlin Gusman has agreed to accept nearly every member of the team favored by Mayor Mitch Landrieu's administration to monitor the Orleans Parish Prison consent decree.
Friday's agreement paves the way for implementation of the proposed reforms. The consent decree requires the monitor team, whose members will report directly to U.S. District Judge Lance Africk.
According to our partners at NOLA.com, Gusman accepted nearly all the candidates favored by Mayor Landrieu and the federal government.
The team will be led by Susan McCampbell. She's overseen similar efforts around the country.
