NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Starting Sunday, most riders will have to pay $2 to use the Lower Algiers and Algiers Point ferries.
Since the elimination of the Crescent City Connection tolls put the ferry service at risk, many have been fighting to keep it in operation. Now, they're celebrating a deal designed to keep the ferries in operation for the long term.
City leaders say the deal consists of two contracts. One of the contracts is between the state and RTA and the other is between RTA and Veolia Transportation, which is the private company now taking over operations.
