When Garren Thomas Mims Sr. was growing up in New Orleans, Mardi Gras meant watching the Zulu parade with his extended family. “One of my uncles had a bus, and most of the family would ride the bus to different locations,” he said. “We would see Zulu and go see the Indians.”
When she was a child, his wife, Georgette Anita Lang-Mims, also celebrated the day with relatives at the Zulu parade. “St. Ann and North Prieur, that’s where the family would gather to see Zulu,” she said.
