Besides deciding runoff contests for sheriff, coroner and two City Council seats and ruling on the Audubon Commission’s request for a 50-year property tax renewal, New Orleans voters will cast ballots Saturday on two other matters.
One is a citywide measure. The other involves just one of the city’s 366 precincts. Neither has attracted much public attention.
The citywide measure would double the homestead exemption, from $75,000 to $150,000 of an owner-occupied house’s appraised value for veterans with a certified service-connected disability rating of 100 percent or for surviving spouses who continue to own and occupy the disabled veterans’ houses.
