NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain on Thursday contacted the managers of Northshore Workforce - the Covington-based transitional work program - to notify them that he was closing the program.
The process of relocating the program's 148 participants to the St. Tammany Parish Jail for temporary housing began at about noon. Forty-three participants who were at the facility were escorted by sheriff's deputies to the jail.
Throughout the day, 93 additional participants who were at job sites were picked up and brought to the jail.
